COLLAGE-PAINTINGS (MIXED MEDIA)
This is a blend of collage and oil painting. The planning of the piece, including the drawing itself, comes first. Then the oil painting is put on board and the collage is created and overlaid.
Don't Employ Damage
This piece started as two separate, square oil paintings utilizing the drama/comedy mask iconography. I tried to equally fill the face area in each piece and allow the empty background space to be filled later. I used magazine material to collage in the emotional output from the faces. When I matted the piece, I kept a strip down the middle between the two pieces and added a stream of found text to cascade down the middle. |
USED
I warped the sizing of the anatomy in this figure. By enlarging the legs, they create a barrier between the viewer and the figure. The figure’s immersion in the screen is clear by the posture and the overloading of content is clear through the collage. Keeping the clothing to blocks of color focused attention on the figure and their mental experiences. This piece was shown at Touchstone Gallery in Washington, DC in February 2023. |
